"Golf is a hard game to figure. One day you will go out and slice it and shank it, hit into all the traps and miss every green. The next day you go out and, for no reason at all, you really stink." - Bob Hope
As a child in the 1950's, I would join my family around our vintage movie projector to watch movies and TV shows my uncle starred in. Afterward, the mandatory poker game followed. While I hid under the card table, waiting for pennies to fall, I listened to the adults talk about work at the studios and sports. My family, entrenched in the entertainment industry as writers and actors since Vaudeville, shared two major passions; comedy and golf. My uncle Joe wrote Bing Crosby's TV show, "Bing Crosby and Friends" as well as Bob Hope's movie "Son of Paleface". My uncle Eddie, who won a trophy at the Bobby Jones Amateur Golf Tournament on Catalina in the 1930's, starred in films with Bob Hope, Clark Gable, Henry Fonda and Gene Kelly. I didn't know at that young age how lucky I was to hear all those Hollywood stories. Looking back, I'll never forget the love and laughter echoing throughout the room as I hid under the table, collecting my precious treasure.
This is where I found my inspiration for my latest creations. Here's to the next round of golf...
